Spring is sprung

Spring is sprung, the grass is ris.
I wonders where the birdies is.
They say the birds is on the wing.
Ain’t that absurd?
I always thought the wing was on the bird.

Almond blossom

Almond blossom

Spring has arrived! We took this picture of almond blossom a couple of weeks ago. The trees looked beautiful. Yesterday when we got up, the wind had blown most of the blossom off the trees. It looked a bit like snow on the ground, but it isn’t nearly as much fun as real snow!

Lots of things are starting to grow. Some of the deciduous trees are beginning to look green again. The bipeds keep checking the buds on the wisteria to see how soon they think it will flower. The lizards are scurrying about in the middle of the day, when it’s warm. The little birds are hopping about picking up white hair to line their nests. I like to see them making use of my hair, there’s always some in the grass if you look closely.

I love being brushed because it is undivided attention from a biped. I need lots of brushing in the Spring because I shed my undercoat. (Read more about my coat – From Hair to Eternity) They sometimes take it in turns to brush me because they say it makes their arms ache – I love it!

The bipeds spend more time outside doing things like gardening, I enjoy being outside with them. When I think they’ve worked hard enough, I encourage them to take a break and play with me. Outside games are a lot more fun than games indoors!

The cats are happy because it’s warm enough for them to sunbathe on the balcony some days. They love it when it gets warm enough to leave the door to the balcony open all day.

The snow line gradually gets higher up the mountains. This means more paths are available to walk and there will still be snow in shady patches. On walks, the bipeds keep getting distracted by things like flowers, so I get extra sniffing time! The mountain streams are flowing with melted snow – very refreshing! The highest mountains still have white peaks, so the views are breathtaking.

We generally take longer walks in the Spring, when the weather is good. We take the walks we won’t be able to do when it gets too hot to go out in the middle of the day in the summer. Sometimes we’re lucky and see something unusual like wild goats. Later in the Spring, or early summer, we may see really young wild boar. They look really cute when they still have striped coats!

  1. Beautiful blossom. The Help is feeling restless. She was house-hunting on the web in France last night. After your photograph I can see she’ll be in Spain tonight! Hopefully that’s as far as it will go :-)

  2. Oh Clowie, everyone in our household adores Spring! The doors can be left open so the dogs can come and go as they want, the cats venture out, the chickens lay even more eggs and we are faced with the veg patch looking empty and neglected. Our busiest time of the year outside but so rewarding when it’s all set for the season. Enjoy your walks but do be careful if you see baby Sanglier!

    • Spring is wonderful! We’re fans of open doors – Mulberry usually campaigns for them all winter and is so happy when it pays off in the Spring! The bipeds always make sure I’m careful, but they needn’t worry as we don’t usually see any boar until they’re quite a bit larger and they’re usually running away.

  3. Spring is certainly better in several ways than winter, but, from my perspective, as a dog person, it has one major drawback. MUD! So many feet to clean, so many towels to wash. LOL Beautiful photo!

    • My bipeds complain about mud sometimes, but I love it – it’s wonderful to play in! I do get a bit bored with having my feet wiped every time I come indoors during a wet spell though.

      • Elizabeth had a clever solution to this that she and I both love… she lays a towel on the floor and then we dance on it! I love to dance and my feet get clean at the same time!
But Spring isn’t something I need to worry about for a while yet… check out today’s blog and you’ll see why, BOL!

      • We’ll have to try dancing on the towel. I’ve just popped over and that looks like a lot of snow. I’d love to play in that!

      • Bored huh? ;-) Yes, you dogs sure do love the mud! It’s gotten colder again and we had a light dusting of snow. Mama is happy about that.

      • Hi Stella! Just dropped by your blog and that sure is a lot of snow. We do the towel walking/dancing too, but, when you’ve been running around in the mud, it’s just not quite good enough. Nice to meet you. :-D

  4. We can’t wait for Spring Clowie. We have more bad weather to come but we are looking forward to the sun and all the greenery.
    Best time of year.
    Have a wonderful Wednesday.
    Best wishes Molly

  5. Hi Clowie! Glad Spring is springing there – we’re waiting for the first signs here…..I’m SURE it’s coming soon! Those little wild boar piglet guys are so cute…….but then SO ARE YOU!!!! Happy Spring!!!!

    Kitty Hugs, Sammy

  6. Living with a Kuvasz, believe me, we know about from hair to eternity! We are still getting snow, no early spring here but that is fine, it is just messy. Enjoy your brushing!

  7. So glad I stopped in to visit! You describe a lot of what’s happening around here and it really gives Spot and I “the fever”! Our trees are finally putting their clothes back on and our early morning walks before dawn light have Spots FULL attention…bunny vision time! Lots of bunnies out and about. Looking forward to the babies. Your place sounds lovely. Hugs.

    • The blossom has a really light smell. The trees look beautiful, but the blossom often gets blown away because it is earlier than most other things. I hope that Spring isn’t too far away for you!

  8. Good morning Clowie!!!! The birds were just totally raucous this morning and my Sam cat was at the window, getting all confused because everything was so noisy and so many robins hopping about the front yard, he didn’t know where to look first. He loves the spring. He spent the first three years of his life in a cage at a shelter and this first year with us has been a year of real excitement for him – everything is just new and wonderful – like spring :-) I hope you keep having wonderful adventures and enjoying yourself.

    • It must be really exciting for Sam! I’m so glad he has more fun now – it must be awful to spend that long in a cage at a shelter. Have a great day!

  9. We have some things blooming here too. We really like it when things start to blossom and pop up out of the ground. Have fun in this nice weather.

  10. Mr. K loves him some spring! Soaking up the sun on a nice patch of grass. Sometimes, he actually stops walking so he can roll over and get some sun on his belly. Unfortunately, spring isn’t quite here for us yet but it is starting to get warmer slowly but surely. Enjoy this lovely season! Much love, The Scottie Mom.

  11. We’ve heard of this so called spring…with snow piled up as high as the front window at most houses here it is hard to imagine such a season will come again. You give us hope Clowie!
And I had no idea wild piglets were so cute when they were little! Can’t say I find the adults overly adorable :-)

  12. Spring has sprung in my neck of the wood too, Clowie. The flowering trees haven’t started blooming yet, so seeing yours was a reminder of what’s to come!

  13. Beautiful blossoms! Spring is almost here, but not quite as much as it seems to be where you are. I see our tulips coming in, but all our grass and trees are still brown. The weather is a bit warmer, though, and we are taking more frequent and longer walks. Enjoy!

  14. Your Spring looks and sounds wonderful Clowie…Momz and I love Spring too, but ours only lasts about a minute … we go pretty quickly from our version of Winter into full blown Summer…We see baby feral pigs here too but ours aren’t cute like yours…generally just a plain black

  15. Me ventured outside because it was sunny and warm yesterday and we has daffy-dillies and two-lips coming up!!!! Me can’t wait for all the snows to melts and the hot days everyday! And the brushing probably feels wonderful! Mommy gots a pile of fur off of my hairy slobbery sister Bob that was bigger than me!
    Kisses
    Nellie

    • My cats are looking forward to it being hot enough to sunbathe every day. It is wonderful to get rid of my thick winter undercoat – there’s quite a lot of it!

  16. Stopped raining in Seville, after a week or more Doggy finally got his morning run, he was getting annoying. I like spring, however, deep inside I fear it cuz I know that soon it’ll get really warm in here and I hate that, just hate it.

  17. That almond tree looks pretty. Elizabeth says there’s nothing more beautiful than an almond tree in full blossom. Our equivalent, she says, would be a pincherry tree, but the blossoms are much, much smaller!
We like fall better in our household. But only by a narrow margin. All the seasons have their pros and cons!

    • The almond trees do look amazing, but it’s usually for quite a short time. The autumn is the best time if you want to go up the highest mountains here – and the weather is often very good. I enjoy the changing seasons.

  18. Who doesn’t love Spring? Tell me and I’ll encourage them to re-think their position. BOL That is a beautiful photo of the Almond Blossom…kinda looks like a Cherry Blossom, no?!?

  19. We can’t wait for spring to come to us too! We think we’re really going to like springtime. Mom wants to know if those cute little boars could learn to use litter boxes….silly Mom.

    • I’m sure you’ll love it when you start to get more sunshine! The little ones would look cute trotting around indoors in their stripey coats, but I don’t know how well behaved they’d be.

  20. I love the spring! And we’re finally seeing signs that it’s on its way to Maryland. :) Crocuses, snow iris, and daffodils are starting to bloom, And I saw some flowers on a plum tree today that look ready to open soon. Enjoy those longer walks and brushings!

    • It’s my favourite time of year. I love daffodils, they always look so cheerful. I will enjoy the longer walks, it’s wonderful when we go out for the day.
